Chairman's Message

by Jerry Kottschade

ASA Is Stronger Than Ever
This is my last "message" to you as chairman of the Automotive Service Association (ASA). At the ASA Annual Convention taking place later this month in Washington, D.C., ASA Chairman-elect Don Seyfer from Colorado will step in as chairman. Don has had a remarkable career in association leadership and automotive service, so the chairman's position is in the ablest of hands. In fact, reflecting back on my year as chairman, I'd say that ASA is in an extremely strong position to continue to deliver benefits to members and represent their interests.

In the past year, I've traveled around the country to ASA's national events and numerous state affiliate events. I've had the chance to meet new friends and renew old friendships. I've seen firsthand that there are many people working for the benefit of ASA, both volunteer members and staff people, at all levels of the association. It's especially been a pleasure to work with the national board. We've worked well as a team and I look forward to my time remaining on the board. I'd also like to thank my family for their support and understanding. In almost every respect, association leadership is a team effort, and in my case, I've certainly had the help of family and friends.

Because of the hard work of the many people involved in ASA, the association's future is very positive. We are financially strong, we have good, solid plans for the future and we continue to offer a great package of benefits to members.

Through my involvement in ASA, I've learned that you can't always get everyone to agree, or please everyone in the industry. What I also learned is that you have to keep working for the future and that ASA is the best framework for improving the future for automotive service business owners. The more people who get involved, the stronger we will be.

When it comes down to it, the strength of ASA comes from its people. That means you, the regular members of ASA. I'm fortunate for having the chance to meet so many of you this past year. I'll be seeing you at future ASA events!
